If there is any concept that is difficult to understand then it is the golf swing plane, as there are three swing planes involved. For a basic swing plane imagine how a clock pendulum swings, swinging freely it produces a perfect arc around a pivot point. Now transfer this idea to you swinging a weighted piece of string, it is using your wrist as a pivot point and still producing a perfect arc.

Now how does this relate to a golf swing? We have the idea of the weight swinging in a single plane, but what if you angle your wrist, well the plane would adjust to the same angle. If your arm or wrist twisted left so would the plane, if they were twisted right the plane would go right. Keeping that idea in mind relate it to how your club moves during a swing in relation to the tilt of your body.

The driving range is a great place to study the relationship between the angle that you tilt your body and the direction of the shot. Putting what you have worked out into practice you will soon learn the correct angle to be at to get your shots to go straight. There is not one perfect swing plane, there is not a one size fits all stroke plane out there you can buy. It largely depends on your body height, but other factors do come into it. When you have found the swing that suits you and your game you will find your handicap reducing as your shot accuracy and distance improves.

Every golf swing you take must be analyzed until you get it right. This can be done by watching yourself in a mirror or recording your shots and playing them back later. If you are having difficulty get a coach to help you, they will probably have seen the problem before and be able to find a remedy quicker than you can do on your own.

When you do start to evaluate and improve your swing you must start from the very beginning. Reappraise your stance, you might not think it has changed over your golfing career but it probably has. It only needs a slight change in weight or flexibility in your joints to alter your stance. It could be that your swing sends you off-balances because of a shift in your center of gravity. But it can be fixed and your game will improve tremendously.
